The tasting profile of Blanton's Special Reserve Red Label 93 Proof - Japanese Import is a standout. Crafted particularly for the Japanese market, it undergoes an additional two years of maturation with Mash Bill #2. This sour mash, composed of corn, malted barley, and extra rye, is aged in American White Oak casks. The nose reveals a delightful bouquet of fruity and sweet aromas, featuring bright cherries, caramel, dried oak, honey, and vanilla. On the palate, expect subtle yet complex hints of fennel, licorice, ginseng, dry citrus peel, and cinnamon. The finish is exceptionally smooth, characterized by a robust oak influence melded with honey, herbs, and allspice.
Blanton's history is rich and storied. First introduced in 1984 under the meticulous supervision of Elmer T. Lee, Master Distiller at the George T. Stagg Distillery (now Buffalo Trace), it reflects the legacy of Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton. Colonel Blanton's tenure from 1921-1951 marked the tradition of selecting bottles aged in Warehouse H, the sole metal-clad warehouse creating unique temperature fluctuations to impart distinct aging characteristics. Renowned for its higher rye content and meticulous aging process, Blanton's ensures quality over quantity, making each bottle a true collector's item.
Notably, there are eight distinct horse stoppers on Blanton's bottles, each representing different positions in a horse race and spelling out "B-L-A-N-T-O-N'-S" when aligned. Though some stoppers are claimed to be harder to find, Blanton's guarantees an equal number of each stopper is produced annually.
