This cask strength bourbon is one of the boldest offerings from Blanton's. Its high alcohol by volume entices with a robust and inviting profile. Crafted with Mash Bill #2—a sour mash of corn, malted barley, and extra rye—and aged in American White Oak casks, it reveals a depth of flavor found only in the rarest spirits. The nose is bold and savory, featuring dominant hints of smoke and earthy undertones of walnuts and hazelnut, complemented by a warm buttery mouthfeel. On the palate, discover subtle hints of honey, rye, and a medley of spices. The finish is strong and bold, with nuances of chocolatey espresso, honey, and spice.
Known as "liquid gold", this bourbon has a storied history. The first bourbon of this collection was produced in 1984 under the guidance of Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee at the George T. Stagg Distillery, which is now the prestigious Buffalo Trace Distillery. Elmer T. Lee worked closely with Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton, the distillery's president from 1921-1951, who chose barrels aged in the unique, metal-clad Warehouse H. The warehouse's metal construction created significant temperature fluctuations, impacting the aging process in remarkable ways. Featuring a higher rye content and aged for 6-8 years, this allocated bourbon is celebrated for its superior quality, making each bottle a rare find.
Each bottle is adorned with one of eight collectible horse stoppers, added in 1999. These stoppers feature a letter that spells out "B-L-A-N-T-O-N'-S" when all are collected. Aligning the stoppers reveals a narrative of a horse race, from standing at the gate to crossing the finish line. Though some letters may seem harder to find, Blanton assures that the same number of each stopper is produced annually. Note that bottles found overseas are 700 ml, while domestic releases are 750 ml.
